William B. "Jack" Edwards

   William B. "Jack" Edwards, 99, of Norris City passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was born at home in Omaha, IL on November 25, 1926 the son of Grover and Elizabeth (Bruce) Edwards. Jack graduated from Omaha High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II. After the war Jack returned home and married Laura M. Walters on July 7, 1950. They shared 74 years together until Laura's passing on June 18, 2024. Jack worked as a boilermaker through Local Union #363 and at one time owned and operated the Norris City Cafe and Gas Station. He was a member of Ditney Ridge Baptist Church and the American Legion. Jack enjoyed helping people out however he could and was always willing to lend a hand. 

   Jack is survived by his sons, Bruce Edwards of Norris City and Dennis (Debbie) Edwards of Newton, IL; five grandchildren, Jason Edwards, Lindsey Edwards, Melissa Stanley, Jeffery Edwards, and Melanie Thomas; 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jeannie Tantlinger and Norma Olsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Laura and two sisters, Ruby Stroz and Maria Flannagan. 

   Funeral Services for William B. "Jack" Edwards, 99, of Norris City will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2026 at Ditney Ridge Baptist Church in Norris City. Burial with full military honors will follow in Ditney Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m. at Ditney Ridge Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's memory to Ditney Ridge Baptist Church. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City is assisting the family with arrangements.
