Lifelong Centerville farmer, Vernon Barbre, 92, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Ascension St. Vincent in Evansville, IN. He was born in Centerville on July 1, 1933 the son of John E. and Mary A. (Winter) Barbre. Vernon graduated early from Carmi Township High School. He married Joyce L. Barker in Fairfield on December 2, 1950. Vernon joined the United State Air Force and was given an Honorary Discharge due to family hardship. He returned from the service to help with the family farming operation. Vernon was a member of the Carmi American Legion, White County Farm Bureau and the Illinois Horseman Association.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 75 years, Joyce; three children, Brenda (Bill) Ryder, Rick Barbre and Tim (Kristy Groves) Barbre all of Carmi; five grandchildren, Amanda Williams, Whitney Barbre, Briley Barbre, Tyler Barbre and Sydney (Tate) Collins; 10 great-grandchildren, Cade, Zach, Stephen, Jeffery, Savanna, Hallie, Hendrix, Presli, Cainan and Tatim; a sister-in-law, Donna Barbre and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Erwin Barbre, Velma Mobley, Martin Barbre, Mary Luella Belangee, John Barbre, Jr., Norbert Barbre, Laura Elizabeth Barbre and Noah Barbre.
Funeral Services for Vernon Barbre, 92, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery with full military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vernon's memory to White County Cheer for a Cure and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home or by mail to 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821
