Sherry L. Butler

   Sherry L. Butler, 76, of Norris City passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born in Murphysboro, IL on September 26, 1949 the daughter of Thomas R. Cook and Alma Faye Bryd. Sherry met her husband Steve in Junior High during her 7th grade year. On Valentine's Day he walked up and handed her a box of chocolates, and from that day they became High School sweethearts and each other's best friend and special person. They married on October 5, 1968. Sherry had worked as a teacher's aide at Enfield High School, but her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother and taking care of her family.

   Sherry is survived by her husband of 58 years, Stephen; a daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Troy Nelson of Norris City; four grandchildren, Jordan (Sara) Johnson, Keaton (Kenzy) Johnson, Wyatt (Summer) Nelson and Mitchell Nelson; and five great-grandchildren, Liam, Macon, Sophia, Lauryn and Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents who she adored and raised her, Frank and Susie Byrd.

   A private service and burial for Sherry L. Butler was held at Mt. Oval Cemetery in Norris City. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821. Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City is assisting the family with arrangements.
