Sharon Gwaltney

     Sharon J. Gwaltney, 74, of  Carmi passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Eldorado Rehab and Health Care.  She was born in Eldorado, IL on October 30, 1949 the daughter of Frieda (Kanady) Roe and Raymond Stanley. Sharon married Edward Hon on August 15, 1969 and during their 26 years of marriage, they were blessed with a daughter, Andrea.  She later married Stephen Gwaltney on August 6, 2002 and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2010. Sharon enjoyed going to church and had attended First Baptist Church in Carmi, later she would attend New Beginnings Church of God with Stephen and in recent years attended the Crossville Church of Christ with her daughter.  She loved watching Disney movies, spending time with her grandchildren and calling and visiting with her friends.

     Sharon is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Kenny) May of Carmi; her parents, Frieda Roe of Shawneetown and Raymond Stanley of Saluda, VA; three grandchildren, Alex (Torie) May, Kelsi (Pace Young) May and Andrew May; two great-grandchildren, Maci and Zaileigh May; four siblings, Carolyn Sanders of Shawneetown, Darrell Ray Stanley of Harrisburg, Everett Roe, Jr. of Shawneetown and Tina Hubbard of Fredonia, KY; along with several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services for Sharon Gwaltney, 74, of Eldorado will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, January 8, 2024 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will follow in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi.  Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 11:00 a.m until service time at noon at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sharon's memory to The Guardian Center and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home.
