Samuel Roye Smith,76, of Enfield passed away at 2:45 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was born in Eldorado, IL on December 16, 1943, the son of Malcom and Gertrude (Cozart) Smith. Sam graduated from Norris City Omaha High School in 1963 and went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He had worked as an operator for Texas Eastern until his retirement in 1995. Sam was a member of the Norris City American Legion, and enjoyed fishing, cooking, swimming, watching MASH, Gunsmoke and Boxing, hunting for Ginseng and playing the accordion.
Sam is survived by a daughter, Sheila Kaye (John) Ames of West Plains, MO; a son, Samuel Steven Smith of Enfield; a sister, Patty (Curt) Lamp of Norris City; five granddaughters, a grandson, three great-granddaughters; two nephews, Chris Lamp of Huntsville, AL and Ronnie Lamp of Vienna; a niece, Misty Lamp of Norris City and the mother of his children, Bobbie Kay Wininger. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald Smith.
Funeral services for Samuel Roy Smith, 76, of Enfield will be private with burial in IOOF Cemetery in Norris City, where the Carmi American Legion and VFW will perform full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s memory to the Norris City Cumberland Presbyterian Church and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City who is in charge of arrangements.
