Samuel Edward Turpen, 40, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
Sam was born in Evansville, IN to Leroy and Patty Turpen.
Sam graduated from North Posey High School in 1984, where he played Football. He was a member of the Painters Local 156 in Evansville and employed with Tri-State Painting for 15 years.
Sam was an avid Sportsman and enjoyed spending time camping with his family. He loved to fish and hunt with his son, Sammy. His loving wife , Lisa, bravely prepared whatever the twosome dragged home for the evening meal; whether it be a bucket full of Bluegill or small Doves wrapped in bacon. Sam’s daughter, Alex, also enjoyed fishing with her Dad. Sam loved his Beagles (Dusty, Rocky, Copper and Baby) and spent much time training them.
Sam’s passions included; boxing, and football. The whole family followed professional boxing. Tori, Sam’s 15 year old daughter, was taught how to box by her Dad. The whole family enjoyed attending football games. Sam, Lisa, and Tori loved cheering Sammy on, while he dominated the Football field playing Linebacker or Fullback. There was not a more proud Father in the crowd.
Sam was quite a Wrestling Coach. He taught dozens of elementary school boys complicated moves that older boys were not aware existed. Sam played a vital role in 2004 when Sammy was awarded the title of Evansville Elementary City Champion.
He was preceded in death by two grandmothers and a grandfather.
Sam is survived by his wife of 17 years, Lisa (McDaniel) Turpen of Mt. Vernon; his son, Samuel (Sammy) Edward Turpen, II of Mt. Vernon, and daughters, Alexandria Faye Turpen of Louisville, KY and Tori Lee Turpen of Mt. Vernon; his Father and Mother, Leroy, Jr. and Patty Turpen of Evansville, IN; 2 brothers, Dan Turpen and his wife Jill of and Bruce Turpen and his wife Kelly of Evansville; his grandfather, Leroy Turpen, Sr. of Evansville and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, December 12, 2005 at Austin Funeral Home, 1330 East Fourth Street, Mount Vernon, IN. with Rev. Dean Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Friends and Family may call from 4 until 8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences can be made online at www.austinfuneralhome.com.
