Nina Marlene Cozart, 92, of Carmi, IL passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at St. Anthony's Hospice in Henderson, KY. She was born in White County, IL on September 5, 1933, to Miriam(Curtis) and William Anderson. She married John "Tommy" Cozart on February 25, 1955 and shared 62 years with him in Carmi.
Nina was a member of the Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for several years. One of her greatest joys was decorating the church for special occasions and picking out songs for her husband, Tommy, to sing.
Nina was an avid sports fan. She followed Cardinal Baseball and spent many hours watching herson and then her grandkids play sports. Nina was an athlete herself, during her school years,playing on the boy's basketball team.
Nina helped take care of her parents through the years and then her husband. Until June of 2025she was very independent, taking care of herself and worrying more about how other family members and friends were doing. She began a decline in health following the death of her final sibling, her baby brother, at the beginning of the year.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Dan) Konsler of Henderson, KY; her son, Dennis (Caren) Cozart of Evansville, IN; her grandchildren Dan (Katelyn) Flick, Carrie (Eric) Reffett, and Jordan Cozart (Lindsay Renneisen); her great-grandchildren, Elli Wagner, Gabe Reffett, Easton Wagner, Harrison Flick, Emme Reffett, Isla Flick; and several nieces and nephews. She was grateful for being able to spend her last Christmas with family and the newest edition, great-grandson, Calvin Flick.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents, Miriam and William; her husband, John "Tommy" Cozart; and her siblings, John H. Anderson, Pete Anderson, Charles Anderson, Phyllis Dudley, Wilma Wallace, and Gary Anderson.
Funeral Services for Nina Marlene Cozart, 92, of Carmi will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will follow in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nina’s memory to St. Anthony’s Hospice and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi or by mail to 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821.
