Life-long resident of Carmi, Martha Glen Endicott, passed away on January 12, 2026 at the age of 97.
Martha was born in her parents’ home at the corner of Main Street and Sixth Street on January 18, 1928. Her parents Max and Eileen Endicott and beloved big brother, Dick Endicott soon moved around the corner to the family home on Fifth Street which was built by her grandfather, James M. Endicott. Her family has often been regaled with stories of growing up during the Depression, yet every story was happy and full of fun!
Martha married the person she has loved best in the world, Sam Endicott, on November 25, 1948. She devoted herself to raising their three children, Barbara, Bill and Rob, and later to being a wonderful grandmother to Max, Emily and Nathaniel (Sarah), and step-grandmother to Aric (April) and Lauren Koehler. Her great-grandchildren Rapunzel, Teddy, Ira, Ethan and Owen, brought joy to later years.
Martha loved playing bridge, which she did from the time she was a young bride until recently at the Carmi Senior Citizens Center. She was a life-long Democrat casting her first vote for Adlai Stevenson. She also enjoyed her roles on stage with the Carmi League of Arts during the 1980’s. Her love of books and reading lead her to her job in the 1970’s as a librarian at the public library. Later, she was the first manager of Evergreen Acres for many years.
Finally, Martha’s faithfulness to First United Methodist Church of Carmi was a constant throughout her life.
She is survived by Barbara (Steve) Adams, Bill Endicott and Rob Endicott, sister-in- law Sue Endicott, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
