Linda Sue Prater, 60, of Carmi passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, IN. She was born on June 5, 1965 in Arkansas the daughter of Jesse Morris and Ola Mae (Hosier) Morris. Linda married Paul Lee Prater on June 26, 1983 and they shared over 36 years of marriage together until his passing on March 15, 2020. She was a member of New Life Apostolic Church in Carmi for over 20 years where she was a devoted member of Children’s Church and doing outreach. She primarily worked in Home Health, but she also worked for Joyful Start Children’s Center in Carmi. Linda’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, taking care of chickens, and being with her grandchildren.
Linda is survived by her children, Josh (April) Prater of McLeansboro, Shane Prater of Carmi, Eric (Michelle) Prater of Carmi, Aaron (Christina Corn) Prater of McLeansboro, Jordan (Jessica) Prater of Carmi, and Brooke (Chris) Gipson of Crossville; siblings, Luther Thomas Morris of Bridgeport, Mattie Lynn Morrison of Carmi, Alesia Jean Shirley of Harrisburg and Violet Lavern Tyson of Grayville; 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; siblings, Mary Elizabeth Morrison, John Anthony Morris, Sylas Monroe Morris, Jessica Fay Morris, Marcus Edward Morris and an infant brother who passed shortly after birth; and one great-grandchild, Laine Prater.
Funeral Services for Linda Sue Prater, 60, of Carmi will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026 at New Life Apostolic Church in Carmi. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. at New Life Apostolic Church in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Campbell Funeral Home to assist the family with expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church or donations can be mailed to Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St, Carmi, IL 62821 or by Venmo @jordanfuneralgroup Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is assisting the family with arrangements.
