John Scharer

     John Calvin Scharer, 75, of Carmi, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025. He was born on June 4, 1949, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Wilbur D. and Mary Ann (Krawczyk) Scharer. John enjoyed gardening fresh food, swimming, bike riding, Kayaking and fishing. He loved being in nature. John moved to Carmi from Ashland, Oregon three years ago to be close to family.

     John is survived by his siblings, Beverly (Jake) Ryan of Peoria AZ, Judy (Bill) McClure of Tucson, AZ, Dolores Konn of Berkeley, CA, David Scharer of Berkeley, CA. and Debbie (Danny) Linzy of Carmi, IL; nieces and nephews, Christine Dipalma, William McClure, Jr., Alisha Diplama, Morgan Konn, Rachael Konn, Bonnie Burch, Oliver Scharer, Jessica Linzy, Jamie Hess, Jody Slevin; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, that he loved and enjoyed so much. He is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Frank Scharer and Sandra Burch.

     A memorial service for John Scharer will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made in John's memory to the Sierra Club, for his love of conservation and nature. Donations will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements. Donations may also be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821.
