John Harness

John R. Harness, 65, of Granite City, IL passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at his residence.  He was born in Olney, IL on June 27, 1952 the son of Warren Gene and Sue B. (Steele) Harness. John was a Vietnam veteran serving as a Private in the U.S. Army. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Operating Engineers Local 520.  John enjoyed NASCAR and attended several races and loved boating.

John is survived by a son he adored, Jayton Harness of Waltonville; two sisters, Wanda Haley of Carmi and Barbara (Roger) Gates of Elwin, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for John R. Harness, 65, of Granite City will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Burial will be in White County Memorial Garden in Carmi with full military rites by the Carmi VFW and American Legion.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home.
