Jody W. Abell

   Jody W. Abell, 65, of Carmi, passed away at his residence on August 23, 2026. He was born January 29, 1961, to Billy Joe and Garnet Eloise (Davis) Abell. Jody worked in construction, lawn and garden section at Walmart, and in the Galatia and Pattiki coal mines. He enjoyed riding horses, repairing mowers, doing yard work, planting flowers, and was known for his green thumb.

   Jody is survived by his sons, Joseph Daniel of Norris City and Jody (Shyanne) Abell, Jr. of Evansville; grandchildren, Jenna, Jacob, Matthew Tyler, and Maric Wayne; siblings, Rhonda (Scott) Sageser of Carmi and Scott Abell of New Haven; niece, Amanda (Aaron) Smith of Carmi; nephews, Jeremy Abell of New Haven and Bryan (Paige) Abell of Mt. Vernon, IN; great-niece, Sophia Smith of Carmi; great-nephew, Bryson (Amber Moss) Sageser of Carmi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Joe and Garnet Eloise Abell; sister, Tawana Sutton; and sister-in-law, Roxanne Abell.

   A Celebration of Life for Jody W. Abell, 65, of Carmi will be held at a later date. Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi is assisting the family with arrangements.
