Harold L. “Bud” Cox, 83, of Mt. Vernon died 4:35 PM Friday, July 30, 2004 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. Bud was born May 6, 1921 in Mt. Vernon, IN son of Lloyd and Izetta (Watson) Cox. Bud was a US Army WW II Veteran. He was a 1st Sergeant with the 95th Infantry Division serving in the European Theatre. Bud was a member of Owen Dunn American Legion Post #5 in Mt. Vernon and was a member of its Color Guard for many years. He was also a member of VFW Post 1114 in Evansville, IN and the Eagles in Mt. Vernon. He retired from Farm Bureau Refinery in Mt. Vernon where he was a gauger. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (King) Cox on April 30, 1994
He is survived by two sons, Randall L. Cox of Harvest, Alabama and Kelly R. Cox of Mt. Vernon, IN; 3 daughters, Susan K. Nelson and Cindy L. Green of Mt. Vernon, IN and Nancy L. Murphy of Alpharetta, Georgia. One brother, Arnold (Bib) Cox of Evansville, IN also survives. Bud is survived by 11 grandchildren, Aimee Nelson, Matthew Cox, Nick & Ashley Bauer, Danny, Neil and Allison Green, Kyle, Jeremy, Kate and Caroline Cox. Three great grandchildren and a lifetime family friend, Ann Thompson of Mt. Vernon also survives.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Austin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Tom Buffington officiating. Burial will be in the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon with Military Rites conducted by the Owen Dunn Post #5 Color Guard. Friends may call from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to The American Legion Scholarship Fund.
