Garree Williamson

Garree Gem Williamson passed away on Sunday, September 6, at the age of 79.

Williamson was the son of the late James Olen Williamson and Anita Lillian Moll Williamson.

A native off Dupo, Illinois, he graduated from Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in forestry. Williamson was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country while stationed in West Germany, and achieved the rank of Specialist/E5.

An avid genealogist, Williamson loved researching and authoring comprehensive histories of his own family and many others. He was also a true outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling.

After a 30-year career with the U.S. government, Williamson retired in 2004. He spent 24 of those years with the National Park Service, during which he dedicated numerous summers to fighting wildfires out west.

Williamson lived in Cumming, Georgia to be near his beloved grandchildren.

Williamson is survived by his sons Matthew (Elizabeth) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Nathan (Rebecca), as well as grandchildren, Piper and Abel of Atlanta, Georgia.

Williamson is preceded in death by the love of his life, Caroline Fern Englebright Williamson. They were married for over 55 years.

Funeral Services for Garree Gem Williamson, 79, of Cumming, Georgia, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Inurnment will follow at Little Zion Cemetery in Enfield. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
