Francis “Frank” Phillip Speller, 84, of Carmi, IL passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. He was born on December 20, 1940 in Outer London, England, the son of Francis Albert and Edith (Smith) Speller. Frank married his high school sweetheart, who he reunited with after 40 years, Maureen Allen on June 3, 2005 and they shared over 20 years of marriage together. He worked as an electrical engineer most of his life. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Church of England, King Harold Masonic Lodge in England, and honorary member of Burnt Prairie Lodge #668. Franks’s hobbies included flying, reading, music, walking his dogs, working on old clocks, and electronics.
Frank is survived by his wife, Maureen (Allen) Speller of Carmi; children, Karen (Alan) Shorb of Carmi, Mark Venner, as well as Melissa (Mike James) Brand-Welch, Paul (Sarah) Speller and daughter Isobella whom he thought of as his children; grandchildren, Morgan James, McKenzie Taylor, and Annaleise Shorb; bonus grandchild, Cal Bingman; great-grandchildren, Jenna James, Jacob James, Oaklyn Taylor, Asher Bingman, and Hendrix Bingman; multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; sister-in-law Kathy Speller; Pontca Lake Family including, special friends, Mark (Barb) Knight and Matt (Teresa) Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Hoy; siblings, David Speller, George Speller, and one in infancy; and his several furry four-legged friends.
In keeping with Frank’s wishes services for Frank Phillip Speller, 84, of Carmi will be private and his ashes returned to England. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Frank’s memory to Pets at Risk P.O. Box 2 Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home or by mail to 609 W. Main Street Carmi, Il 62821.
