Ellen Mayse, 92, of Newburgh, formerly of Carmi, passed away at 5:50 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Hamilton Pointe in Newburgh. She was born in Burnt Prairie Township on May 1, 1926 the daughter of Joseph G. and Mary Elizabeth (Keneipp) Friedman. Ellen married Alvin Doyle Mayse on July 10, 1947 and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2005. She worked at The Innovation, was a secretary for John Creeden with McCallister and Becker Insurance, and also worked for Skelly Oil Company and Kirk Drilling Company.

Ellen is survived by a son, Ed Mayse, of Carmi; daughter, Marti (Philip) Dieteman, of Evansville, IN; Marti's twin sister, Stephanie Drew, of Collinsville, IL; four grandchildren, Lindsay (Skip Oliver) Botsch, Ryan (Allison Brooks) Botsch, Andy Mayse and Jonathan Mayse and one great-grandchild, Lola Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Bill Friedman, and five sisters, Helen Matsel, Rosemary Barnhart, Frances Morgan, Gladys Lechner and Mary Friedman.

Funeral services for Ellen Mayse, 92, of Newburgh, formerly of Carmi will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Polycarp Catholic Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 with a Rosary Service starting at 6:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in Ellen's memory to St. Polycarp Catholic Church or Kindred Hospice and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
