Donald Lee Glover

November 15, 1939 — September 19, 2025

Carmi

Donald L. Glover, 85, of Carmi, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 19, 2025. Born on November 15, 1939, in Grayville, IL, to Frank and Leota (Paul) Glover, Don lived a life marked by creativity, generosity, and a deep love for family and community.

Don married, Charlene Miller, on July 16, 1960, at Bruce Chapel. Together, they shared over 65 years of marriage, raising a family and building a life full of adventure and innovation.

After graduating from auto mechanic school, Don worked at Rice Motor Company before serving in the Army Reserves. He later became a full-time farmer, where his inventive spirit truly flourished. Don was never content with the ordinary—he combined two tractors to increase power and traction for larger plows, modified his ultralight glider to spray crops, and created a system to cover grain stored on the ground. He even built an observatory atop a silo, complete with an elevator and zip lines for his grandchildren to enjoy.

Don’s farm was more than a workplace—it was a gathering place. He hosted church youth groups, teaching them not only how to work but also how to drive, instilling life skills and values along the way. After retiring, Don and Charlene joined an RV club, and true to his welcoming nature, he soon hosted RV meets on the farm, inviting everyone to share in the joy of community. Don never met a stranger; his warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Enfield School Board, and the Wabash Valley Board, always finding ways to serve and connect with others.

Don is survived by his wife, Charlene (Miller) Glover of Carmi, IL; three children, Dana (Michael) Greider of Huntington, WV, Martha (JP) Pierce of Longview, TX, and Rex (Gena) Glover of Deer Creek, IL; a brother, Paul Glover; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Amelia) Greider, David Greider, Michelle (Daniel) Plaugher, Nick McJimsey, Dylan (Ashley) McJimsey, Rachel (Josh) Jones, and James Pierce; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a special family friend, Charlotte Womack. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Sherril Glover, and a sister Norma Peas.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on November 15, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Carmi, with the time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home, 609 W. Main St., Carmi, IL 62821, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
