David B. Campbell, 69, of Carmi passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. He was born on December 10, 1955, in Carmi the son of Donald Lee and Joyce (Fluke) Campbell. David was a 1974 graduate of Carmi Community High School and went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University in 1976 with a degree in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service. David married Sharon R. Thackrey on April 29, 1988. David, alongside Sharon, owned and operated Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi and Norris City. He was a licensed Funeral Director for over 40 years, serving the families of White County.
David was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Carmi. He was an active member of the community. He was a member and President of the Carmi Lions Club, where he was a Past District Governor for District 1-CN and served in numerous other positions. David was a board member of the Martin Blackledge Foundation, past President of the Carmi Chamber of Commerce, past volunteer Firefighter for the Carmi Fire Department and had served on numerous boards and committees over the years. In 2014 he was named Carmi Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. David was an avid trap shooter and member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon; three sisters, Deborah (Bill) Price of Owensboro, KY, his twin, Diana (Gene) Jordan of Carmi and Donna (Kirk) Knight of Mt. Juliet, TN; his mother-in-law, Dorotha Thackrey of Carmi; sisters-in-law, Karen (Gregg) Strawhecker of Bartlett, TN and Pharon (Scott) Winter of Wadesville, IN; along with numerous nieces and nephews who referred to him as Uncle Benny. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Brenda Bernard.
Funeral Service for David B. Campbell, 69, of Carmi will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Friends may visit on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the First Baptist Church in Carmi or the Carmi Lion Club and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home or by mail to 609 W.
