Corbet C. Stover, Jr

     Corbet Stover Jr., 69, passed away on August 2, 2026, at 1:33 p.m. at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, unwavering devotion, and countless stories that will continue to be told for generations. Born on August 8, 1956, Corbet lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and an unconditional love for his family.

     Corbet was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving his country with honor before dedicating his life to his family and the work he loved.

     Corbet was the beloved husband of Sherry (Allen) Stover. Their love was one that everyone admired. They were truly inseparable, rarely seen apart, and that was exactly how Corbet wanted it. Together, they built a life centered on faith in one another, family, and making memories.

     He was a proud father to Roaslind Mason (Rob Mason), Ricky Stover, Lydia Stover (Corwin Clark), and Joseph Stover (Rebecca Stover). He was also the proud son of Margaret Stover.

     Nothing brought Corbet greater joy than being "Papa." He treasured every moment with his grandchildren, Travor Mason and Zanna Clark. Whether it meant traveling across the country to watch his grandson play ball, taking his granddaughter on adventures, or simply making sure they knew they were loved and cared for, being their Papa was one of the greatest honors of his life.

     He was preceded in death by his father, Corbet Stover Sr.; his brother, Ricky Stover; and his precious granddaughter, Suzzanna Mason, whom he carried in his heart every day.

     Throughout his life, Corbet wore many hats. He was a lifelong farmer, an incredibly talented mechanic, and a truck driver. There wasn't much he couldn't fix, and if one of his kids needed something repaired, Dad always found a way to make it work. His hands built, repaired, and provided, but his greatest work was the family he loved so deeply.

     Corbet believed life was meant to be lived with the people you love. Some of the best memories were made piling into the vehicle with Sherry, the kids, and whichever four-legged family members wanted to tag along, heading out on another road trip just to see where the road would take them.

     If you knew Corbet, you knew there were two things you simply didn't criticize: the St. Louis Cardinals and Pink Floyd. He could tell you everything there was to know about both, and he loved every minute of it. If you stopped by for a visit, you might think something was wrong if Pink Floyd wasn't echoing through the house, the walls weren't shaking, the windows weren't rattling, and Corbet wasn't sitting comfortably with a glass of sweet tea while watching the Cardinals play. That was home. That was Corbet.

     He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son, a proud Papa, a veteran, and a loyal friend. His quiet strength, willingness to help anyone, unmatched work ethic, and deep love for his family defined who he was far more than any job title ever could. 

     While our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort knowing his legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the things he built, the love he shared, and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.

     He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

     A service to celebrate the life of Corbet Stover, Jr., 69, of Norris City will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 7, 2026 at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City followed by full military honors by the Carmi American Legion and VFW. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Corbet's memory to Pets at Risk, PO Box 2, Carmi, IL 62821 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home or by mail to 609 W.
