Alice M. Hargett

  Alice M. Hargett, 93, of Carmi passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi.  She was born on October 5, 1929 in Enfield, IL the daughter of Edgar and Mabel (Rose) Huffaker.  Alice married William E. "Bill" Hargett on June 24, 1949 and he preceded her in death on October 12, 1997.  She was a lifelong member of Enfield Christian Church and in recent years attended First Christian Church in Carmi. She was employed at Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield for a number of years. Alice had a green thumb and could grow anything. She loved to take the produce from her garden and would can or freeze to enjoy throughout the year. She and her husband had a unique hobby of making and selling rag rugs on a large antique loom.  Several rugs are still in use today across White County and the surrounding area. 

     Alice is survived by a sister, Betty Sailer of Carmi; three nieces, Lisa (Casey) Calvert of Evansville, IN, Yvonne Beveridge of Belleville, OH and Louella (Lee) Erwin of Sierra Vista, AZ; along with several great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill and a brother-in-law, Wayne Sailer.

     Funeral services for Alice Hargett, 93, of Carmi will be held at 11:30 a.m, Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.  Burial will follow in Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, IL.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:30 at Campbell Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made in Alice's memory to the First Christian Church in Carmi and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi.
